Imagine visiting a salt lake that doubles as one of the most beautiful places on Earth and also assists in the calibration of satellites. Sounds fun, right? How about meeting the most beautiful collection of butterflies ever in their numbers?
Today we’ll focuses on the most beautiful places on earth and it’s not one you’d want to miss!
Number 12. Sequoia National Park, California, US
Sequoia National Park is a large part of inland California. The major attraction to the park is its abundance of giant sequoia trees that stretch to the heavens and have a uniquely mesmerizing red-hued trunk. Another major attraction that this park offers visitors is the General Sherman Tree.
Interestingly, General Sherman isn’t the only historical tree here. The Giant Forest which is home to this tree also contains five of the ten largest trees in the world! Amazing, right?
There is so much beauty to take in here. It is a must-visit.
Number 11. Abu Simbel Temple, Aswan, Egypt
Abu Simbel Temple is the most beautiful temple in the world, I daresay. It plays host to the Great Temple of Ramses II. Don’t worry, we won’t be delving much into that but it is important you know this as there are artefacts of Ramses II’s life at the temple. He lived building temples, statues, and monuments so it is fitting that he has some dedicated to him too.
The sandstone temples were carved out of rock but not just any rock; it was carved out of the Nile’s west bank rock. There are four magnificent twenty-one-metre-tall monuments of the Pharaoh and paintings from centuries past.
The temple is a feast for the eyes, one you should not miss.
Number 10. Vatnajökull National Park, Iceland
Back in 2008 when Vatnajökull was merged with neighbouring regions Skaftafell and Jökulsárgljúfur, no one envisaged it would rise to the status of one of the most beautiful places on earth. But, the merger helped it become a mega park stretching for fourteen thousand meters. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site currently; it has been one since 2019.
Within it, you will find perhaps the largest compilation of Iceland’s geological wonders.
There are the canyon rock formations at Asbyrgi which never ceases to amaze visitors, the waterfalls at Dettifoss and Svartifoss, and the Vatnajökullice cap with beautiful milky blue glaciers.
Number 9. Coral Beach, Isle of Skye, Scotland
A mix of Scotland and the Caribbean. That is exactly what this beach is and boy, does it deliver magnificently. It is a Caribbean-esque beach with stretches of white sand. It is located on the Isle of Skye’s north coast and to reach it, you just have to do some walking. But it’s a hundred per cent worth it!
Coral Beach is one of the most relaxing places to be and you will find yourself at ease immediately after you step foot on it.
What’s not to love about this beach? The sands are so white that the sea looks azure blue by contrast on a hot day. The waters are crystal clear and you can swim as much as you wish to. Coral Beach exudes beauty thoroughly.
Number 8. Kravica Waterfalls, Studenci, Bosnia And Herzegovina
Nicknamed a “mini Iguazu”, the waterfalls surely deserve a place on this list. It is a thirty-minute drive from Croatia’s Southern border and you’d think you are a character in a fairytale by the time you set your eyes on these waterfalls. The waterfalls are about twenty-three meters tall and are simply beautiful.
If you are lucky enough to visit in the summer, you can swim in the basin below Kravica. This is because the water flows more slowly during this period. If you are into kayaking, it is a perfect opportunity for you to do what you love too. Thankfully, you can hire a kayak somewhere around the falls.
Number 7. Fiordland National Park, South Island, New Zealand
This national park is one of the most popular natural landmarks in New Zealand.
The Maoris have a fascinating tale about the 15 valleys carved by glaciers in the southwest corner of South Island. Legend has it that a stonemason named Tute Rakiwhanoa is the mastermind behind these majestic fjords. These fjords have been captivating people for centuries. Milford Sound boasts the iconic Mitre Peak standing tall at thousand, six hundred and ninety-two meters but there’s more! There is Doubtful Sound, the deepest of the fjords, the breathtaking waterfalls like Browne Falls and Helena Falls which add an extra touch of beauty to the scenery. Ah, and the wildlife too – penguins, fur seals, and even bottlenose dolphins all call this place home.
Number 6. Whitehaven Beach, Whitsundays, Australia
Ever wondered why Whitehaven Beach is one of the most photographed beaches in the world? The beauty to be discovered here is out of this world! It is a magnificent strip of white sand and boasts an air of serenity and peace. You can come here and forget all about the hustle and bustle of life if you allow the beach to draw you in. If you manage to make it up to Tongue Point, then rest assured you’ll get the best view of the beach.
Whitehaven’s beach is one of the best places to visit in the world and is highly recommended. It is mesmerizing. It is a paradise.
Number 5. Sossusvlei Pan, Namib-Naukluft National Park, Namibia
When you gaze down at Sossusvlei from above, you’re met with a breathtaking sight – massive sand dunes painting Namibia’s central coast a bright shade of red, some towering over a hundred meters above sea level. The stark contrast between these majestic dunes and the cracked clay pans that stand beside them creates a beauty so raw, that it’s hard to look away.
These sands, dating back millions of years, have been featured in dozens of films and it’s not even difficult to get here. You just need to have your 4×4 ready.
Number 4. Salar De Uyuni, Bolivia
Bolivia cops a spot on this list with the world’s largest salt flat, Salar De Uyuni. Located in Altiplano, this salt flat looks like a painting. This doesn’t even do justice to how beautiful its reflective surfaces are. Moving across it is both exciting and scary but more exciting I guess, because that explains better why an uncountable number of people check in here every year.
Did you know that Salar de Uyuni is so enormous that it’s used to calibrate satellites? Its large mirror-like surface is so incredibly flat that scientists use it to fine-tune satellite instruments.
The sea salt is one you will not forget in a hurry and you have to check it out if you’re ever in Bolivia.
Number 3. The Fairy Pools, Isle of Skye, Scotland
Welcome to the enchanting Fairy Pools. A place so beautiful that photographers wish they never had to leave.
This place has pristine water, picturesque scenery and cold water so you might want to avoid swimming but I’d you are wild enough to try it, a fun experience awaits you.
There are aqua-blue pools around too just in case you want to avoid getting wet and an infinity pool surrounded by a stone wall.
The fairy pools always leave guests with inner satisfaction and you will be no exception.
Number 2. Plitvice Lakes National Park
This is one of the oldest national parks in Southeast Europe and the largest national park in Croatia and there is no way I’d have completed this list without its inclusion. It has sixteen crystalline lakes that join one another through a series of cascades and waterfalls. If walking around appeals to you, you can also explore the park via wooden pathways and footbridges that are found at the edges and across the waterfalls to offer unparalleled views of the area. You will meet a collection of the most colourful butterflies to keep you company throughout your hike too.
Still wondering why it is a worthy number two on this list?
Number 1. Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona, US
I’m sure it needs no introduction and if it ain’t on your bucket list yet, then that’s an incomplete bucket list you have right there.
The sheer size of the canyon is one enthralling thing about it, the view is another.
Yearly, close to five million people visit the canyon to soak in its beauty. It has three rims, North, South, and West and whether it is viewpoints, historic artefacts, adventure, solitude, hiking, helicopter rides, or the native American ruins that you seek, you are bound to be satisfied. In my experience, if you visit at sunrise or sunset, then you might never want to leave because the sights at these times are just too pure and magnificent to behold.
The canyon is one of the seven wonders of the world and is simply a beautiful piece of art. You will leave with unforgettable memories.
