What if I expose to you some vacation destinations in 2024 that will offer you nothing but unforgettable horror stories, disappointments and a bitter taste in your mouth and in return you offer me…nothing!
From being ridiculously expensive to bad living and environmental conditions to being out rightly dangerous due to wars and insurgency, We have compiled a list of destinations to avoid while planning that vacation.
Relax and follow us on this journey as we travel through places not to vacation in 2024. Let’s go!
It is a bit of a fall-from-grace story for Acapulco as this destination was once the sweetheart of travellers all over the globe. Things have since gone awry though as the city’s reputation has gone down the drain. Why so?
High crime is one of the top reasons. Acapulco’s crime rate experienced a crazy upward plunge in recent years and right now, the city is considered one of the most dangerous places in Mexico.
Many tourists have been robbed and gone through other forms of evil while at the beach. This is to show that the dangers of the town have spilt over from just the streets to literally every part of the city.
There is also a high rate of homicide and drug-related crimes going on in the city and if you don’t want to be caught in the crossfire, then you should steer clear of Acapulco. There are many other Mexican cities to explore and you should make your pick from them.
Recently, the US Department of State issued a level 3 travel advisory for this city. Travellers are warned to avoid all non-essential travel due to how dangerous the city has become and that goes a long way to show you why you should NOT visit San Pedro Sula.
Political instability, drug trafficking, gang activity, robbery, theft, assault and a lot of other vices have become the norm in the home peaceful city. The residents of the city live in fear of what next night befall them. What more visitors?
Away from these dangers, there isn’t enough provision for tourists. They have some interesting historical sites and some bubbling local markets but they also have poor infrastructure and lack any reasonable attractions to at least lure visitors. These and more reasons are why you should strike San Pedro Sula off your travel bucket list right now. Not worth it at all.
Oh, did I tell you the city also has one of the highest murder rates in the world?
Don’t allow yourself to be deceived by the prospect of seeing the Old Medina and the Hassan II Mosque, Casablanca is no longer that fantastic destination it used to be.
When placed side by side with other places in Morocco like Marrakech and Fez, you see it for the fraud it has become. The city is heavily industrialized and is one hell of a noisy, chaotic place. The traffic situation is nothing to write home about and the city is also very polluted.
That’s not all. The city has modern buildings, predominantly. Now, this isn’t a problem but as a guest to Casablanca, just bear in mind that you will miss out on seeing the beautiful intricate designs and bright colours that most Moroccan buildings are known for.
Most visitors to Morocco come for the charm and character the country has come to be known with. Casablanca doesn’t offer such any longer. There is no calm and tranquillity in the city and the city has also lost its ability to offer the authentic Moroccan experience. You might instead want to explore the aforementioned Moroccan cities. They are still delightful places to visit but Casablanca? Skip!
Nagoya is the fourth-largest city in Japan and has some very notable attractions like the Nagoya castle and the Atsuta Shrine. With over 2 million inhabitants, it has a bustling metropolis.
Okay, I know what you are thinking right now. What then is it doing in this list?
Well, the city has a heavily industrialized landscape and can barely offer a good Japanese experience. This is one major reason why tourists avoid hopping on a journey to the city these days.
It has a lot of modern skyscrapers and concrete buildings and lacks that picturesque atmosphere that most vacationers crave. I mean, what is a vacation without some heavenly sights?
Lastly, the city is not known for its culinary scene, which is a significant draw for many travellers to Japan. Yes, Nagoya has its own regional cuisine but may not be as appealing to international tourists who are not familiar with it.
All this lack of charm and character has led to Nagoya gaining the tag of Japan’s most boring city! Not somewhere you would like to go to, my friend.
Things started falling apart at Lake Tahoe after the pandemic in 2020. Before then, it was that location that made it to every bucket list. I might even have recommended it but not with the recent great migration it has witnessed. Several people have made the move into the area and actually adopted their holiday homes as permanent residences. The effects of this? A crazy traffic situation and congestion along the lake and beaches.
You might think it ends there but no. The level of pollution damage to the lake from the dust and exhaust emissions is also something to worry about. It has changed the beautiful cobalt blue colour of the lake to something I can’t even describe.
The town is putting some measures to help the situation such as minimising cars on the road. This means that you might have to make use of the free shuttle program or a bike if you make the trip. That is not bad but sure you can cope with that?
I hope you found this post insightful, please we’d love to hear about places we could add to this list in the comments
